 Moms Have a Woman Lover
When I was two and a half years old, my mother started seeing her first woman lover. Obviously I didn't really know that at the time, but that is when it first happened. Her lover came to live with us and stayed until I was ten. She had a son seven years older than me. For most of my childhood it didn't seem that different to me to have a lesbian mom. It was just the way things were. And I was perfectly happy with that.
When my mother and her lover split up, things got a bit messy. Before they split up they were having fights, and about this time my father came back from overseas. My mother had a nervous breakdown, and my father wasn't very good with children, so I got carted off to my aunt's house to live. My mother recently split up with her second girlfriend. I didn't talk to anyone at school about my mom.
I felt so sorry for what my mother went through. It wasn't her fault that things ended up the way they did. It certainly wasn't the fault of her homosexuality. I mean, don't heterosexual relationships often end up in the same way. Look at the 50% divorce rate!
I'll always be there for my mom, and she knows it. We talk almost every day on the phone. She's started seeing another woman and things are looking good. I'm looking forward to the day that she and her partner see me at my own wedding that will be this summer.
