When I told My Mother I was Pregnant
I guess I shouldn't start my story with such obvious headlines, but I am forty-two years old and I am not a spring chicken anymore, as my mother would say. I have been open with my sexuality for over fifteen years and all my friends and my associates know that I am a lesbian. I don't get harassed, I don't get jokes made about me and I was not one that was easily embarrassed when another woman turns me down.
I found my life partner almost six years ago and we have had some wonderful times together. I couldn't ask for a more loving woman to spend the rest of my life with. Recently we decided that we wanted to expand our loving family and have a child so I went to the local gynecologist and started the process for being impregnated. I am pregnant now, the process worked the first try, which is unusual so there is no backing out now!
Anyway, I am six months pregnant now and I knew that I would have to tell my widowed mother sooner or later that she is going to be a grandmother but I never knew how to tell her I was a lesbian. I called her the other day when I was home alone and I started to tell her I was pregnant and guess what she said 'Are you sure Leslie (that is my mate) isn't going to be upset that you slept with a man?' - She knew all along but we never talked about it! I was so excited to shared all of my experiences with my mother again it was like finding a long lost friend after years have passed.
